There is nothing more unnerving that receiving a phone call or reading the local newspaper and finding a quote that you have purported to have made.

Most employees understand that speaking to the media or making statements on behalf of your business without prior authorisation is prohibited.

However to ensure this matter is understood ensure your code of conduct includes a statement prohibiting unauthorised media disclosure and contact in addition to directing the employee to refer any matter raised to management.
